It’s almost 12 months to the day since Amegdul had his last start in The Twilight and it’s the same race he will make his return at Albury on Friday.
Amegdul ($12 on TAB) has undergone throat surgery since that day when he ran fifth and will wear a tongue tie to help his breathing, according to trainer Dan McCarthy.
“He is a very good horse and has run some terrific races in strong company,” he said.
“Obviously he will improve on what he does today because there is nothing like race fitness.
“His run on Seymour Cup day when he ran third was very good beating home some nice horses - one who has been placed at Group 1 and 2 level since.”
Amegdul will have the services of Lachlan King with the $2.50 TAB favourite Arthur The Great likely to lead from barrier four as he steps up in grade at only his ninth start.
Stablemates Fumiko ($5) and Clever Art ($9) both look well placed to figure for trainer Mitch Beer.
Fumiko has bene close-up in two starts since joining the stables from Brisbane, while Clever Art boasts a strong record at the track with two wins from six attempts.
She took out The Legend Of The South at Moruya two starts ago before failing to finish in the placings in Sydney.
Fine Vintage ($6) resumes racing for trainer Luke Pepper who will be chasing his first feature race back since relocating back to Canberra form Scone.
The galloper won four straight during his career which is some feat and also has a win when first-up in the past.
The top weight Marnix ($34) is also first-up with 62kg for trainer Garry Kirkup and jockey James Innes junior. He ran last in the Wagga Town Plate behind The Prodigal Son when first-up last campaign.
“He has had a spell and I have him since the start of this campaign. He is working great and has more spark in him now so I’m expecting him to run well,” he said.
“He copped interference twice in a couple of races and should of finished closer than what he did. He has got a decent weight (62kg) but from the good draw (2) I expect him to get a nice run behind the speed and be competitive.”
Eamonn’s Memory ($6) is a 10-time winner who accounted for stablemate Shooting For Stars (2nd) and Arthur The Great (4th) last start.
Stablemate Brenlyn’s Trooper, who was second last year, has been scratched Fox Appeal ($21) is also resuming racing and has the inside barrier with the limit weight of 55kg.
