Gundagai Winners - Tips For Sunday 8th September

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Gundagai meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 1:50PM JACK LINDLEY MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

11. Sweet About Me is an interesting filly on debut and she trialled okay behind I Am Me at Goulburn a couple of weeks ago. Betting will be a pointer but she’s drawn well and gets every chance to be competitive first-up.

Dangers: 2. Divron showed some promise in her first preparation which kicked off with a third at Wagga on a heavy then always well on a good track before a break. No public trial but can run well. 5. Luna Angel has had 16 goes and resumes since a fair effort when in the market at Queanbeyan back in December. No trials but is a regular placegetter and stays under notice. 7. Cosmic Cry was in the market on debut back in April and weakened after leading. One to keep safe along with 10. Isagura who hasn’t raced since April also.

How to play it: Sweet About Me WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Rantan wins a Randwick trial on August 14

Race 2 - 2:25PM TOM WELLS MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

8. I See Stars is improving with each start and while beaten favourite at Albury last time she found the line well into second place over a mile. Back in trip but nicely drawn and should be around the mark again.

Dangers: 6. Triumphant Tonic had well over a year off before resuming with a strong finishing second at Wangaratta over 1300m. Draws wide so may get back again but has to be respected. 4. Sogeri is a 28 start maiden but latest effort had plenty of merit and might be ready for the 1400m now. Each-way claims. 9. Sacred Shikoba disappointed a little at Wagga two weeks ago but is open to some improvement.

How to play it: I See Stars WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 3:00PM DARBY WOOD MEMORIAL BM58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Dynamic One looks set to go close after two solid placings here and at Albury. Raced wide last time but still kept coming and while beaten six lengths it was a more than handy run. Draws nicely and should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 4. Sooboogeliscous had a few favours when winning first-up at Dubbo but got the job done nicely and can only be fitter. Will need a bit more luck from a wider gate this time but has to be included. 6. Imposing Tallulah was a drifter in betting but held on after leading at Narrandera a few weeks back. Honest type who can be in the finish. 3. Straight Fire won well here over 1180m first-up then favourite and always well back before a midfield finish at Moruya. Entitled to another chance.

How to play it: Dynamic One WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:35PM C.E. READFORD MEMORIAL C1 HANDICAP (1180 METRES)

8. Bombelleistic sat on the speed and wore the leader down to score a solid debut win at Nowra almost a month ago. That was on a good track. Should be prominent again here and could go on with the job without surprising.

Dangers: 5. Champ De Mars revelled in the heavy ground when scoring an all the way win at Tuncurry two weeks ago. Will give a good sight again up on the speed and the wetter would be better. 2. King Sirius crosses the border after a win on the synthetic at Ballarat third-up. Another coming off a maiden win and if he’s as effective on the grass he’s in the mix. 1. Announcing was outclassed first-up for the new stable at Kensington and is much better suited down in grade. Lightly raced and a likely improver.

How to play it: Bombelleistic WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:10PM GARY READFORD MEMORIAL SUPER MAIDEN (1180 METRES)

6. Master Artist gave away a decent start and ran on strongly into second at Wagga as a short priced favourite. Better for it and while drawn wide he has a good finish on him and if he’s in touch should take holding out.

Dangers: 1. Mo Cent was consistent without winning last time in with three placings from as many starts. Has trialled and doesn’t need to have improved a lot to be in the finish. 8. Dekadance has placed in all three starts to date and while she had her chance at Goulburn last time the winner is smart. Has to be included again. 12. Rileycat is an interesting first starter who trialled back in April at Canberra and wasn’t asked for a whole lot. Market will be a significant pointer.

How to play it: Master Artist WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:50PM FRANK CRIPPS MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

3. Ruff had good support and led all the way to score over a mile at Goulburn two weeks ago and drops in grade into this BM58. Handles all conditions and proven up to 2000m so only has to hold his form to be a contender.

Dangers: 10. Kerma Art put a couple of fair runs behind him to score an impressive win at Wagga on a heavy track. Drops 1kg and drawn to have every chance. 1. Princess Nefertiti will find this a lot easier than her last four in city grade in Sydney and Melbourne. Ran on from last into fourth at Moonee Valley last time. Not badly placed with the claim so gets her chance. 4. Will To Excel hit the line nicely over this course first-up for the new stable. Stays at the same trip but if he holds form has some claims.

How to play it: Ruff EACH-WAY ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Ruff wins at Goulburn on August 25

Race 7 - 5:25PM LEN TOZER 54 YEARS OF SERVICE BM 66 HANDICAP (1180 METRES)

5. Shooting For Stars is racing well without winning this preparation and tried hard when a close second at Albury on a heavy track a few weeks ago. Best form is at this sort of distance and shouldn’t be far away again at the finish.

Dangers: 11. Yam is an on pacer who held them off comfortably over 1400m at Albury last time. At peak at the moment and is the drop in distance isn’t against him he could repeat. 8. Super Sunny Seeya ran third in the same race as Shooting For Stars as favourite. Has the wide gate and best form has been at 1000m and below but hard to leave out of the chances. 3. Red Dates hasn’t raced since May and was a winner at 1406m at Benalla. Fitter for a recent trial and stays under notice from a nice draw.

How to play it: Shooting For Stars WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
