Grafton Winners - Tips For Sunday 5th July

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Grafton on Sunday.

Race 1 - 12:10PM CROWN HOTEL MOTEL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2200 METRES)

4. Eliabella has her first run for Ethan Ensby having formerly been trained in Victoria. It’s been six weeks since the four-year-old ran fifth in a BM58 where she was a $7 chance. The blinkers go on, she drops back to a Class 1 and couldn’t find an easier race to make an immediate impression.

Dangers: 1. Patriot Missile has run second at his last two and this is no harder. Has had five weeks off but if he holds his form, he is the hardest to beat as the market suggests.

How to play it: Eliabella WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 2 - 12:50PM SOUTH GRAFTON EX-SERVICEMENS CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

Con Karakatsanis trained a double at Grafton last Sunday and has placed 2. Kypreos to perfection again here. Was suited by a hectic speed at Newcastle first up but should be too classy back to country company.

Dangers: 10. Quizzical Deel didn’t fire on debut at Hawkesbury but it was a race much deeper than this. Has been transferred to Ethan Ensby for start two. 1. Haven Road is knocking on the door.

How to play it: Kypreos WIN ($1.70 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 3 - 1:30PM GEORGE'S TREE SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Forgive 6. Money Travels for his last start blemish as he struggled in the very heavy conditions. His second to Hyperion Star prior to that when hard in the market has him in the finish of a very open race.
Dangers: 8. Blistering Khuwi takes on the older horses but like the way this Stephen Lee-trained colt worked through the line at Ballina first up behind Slice Of Heaven and Bay Of Bengal.

How to play it: Money Travels WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 4 - 2:10PM HOLIDAY COAST MEATS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

The blinkers have really switched 1. Debrief on since his transfer to Mitch Newman. Put his rivals away over this trip at Dubbo last start to break his maiden while prior to that he wasn’t far off Vulpine at Kembla Grange, who has subsequently won again.

Dangers: 6. Bonnie Joy is a very fast filly in the hands of Colt Prosser. Has been freshened since travelling five wide in a deep Class 1 at Scone. Before that she was too slick for the handy Danebrook. Will bounce back.

How to play it: Debrief WIN ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 5 - 2:50PM GRAFTON HIRE CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

There is a stack of speed here so looking for a closer. 7. Damit fits the bill. Was awful last start at Hawkesbury but wasn’t beaten all that far at Warwick Farm first up. Sets up to get last crack at his rivals from the perfect middle draw.

Dangers: 5. Delayed Response is a grinding sort of mare so a quick tempo will play into her hands fresh over 1400m. Ran fourth in a Highway Handicap last preparation. Respect on pacer 4. Bugalugs on the dominance of his last start win.

How to play it: Damit WIN ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 6 - 3:30PM GRAFTON TOYOTA SOUTH GRAFTON CUP (1600 METRES)

1. Jazzland threw in the towel first up at Randwick to tail off last. He has a history of that though and has shown in the past he can bounce straight back. His best is too good for those so out to a more suitable trip and in a race where he’ll roll forward, backing him to bounce back.

Dangers: Forget 6. Cogliere ran last start, failing to handle the heavy track at Randwick over 2000m. Back to the mile and on firmer footing, he’ll run well. 5. All But Gone will be flooding home at the finish.

How to play it: Jazzland WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 7 - 4:10PM DONOVAN'S BEEF AT THE BARRIERS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Heza Magic Man improved sharply third up to win at this track last start. It was no coincidence that came on the back of a positive ride. The seven-year-old’s last two wins have come from in front so imagine similar aggressive tactics are adopted here.

Dangers: 10. Lady Wahoo was beaten fair and square by Heza Magic Man last start but gets a weight swing and looks suited back slightly in trip to the mile. 2. The Kroc has raced without luck this preparation and this is winnable.

How to play it: Heza Magic Man WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT
