As Dusty Bottoms and his cohorts famously phrased in the cult movie The Three Amigos: "Wherever liberty is threatened you will find ... The Three Amigos!”
The sentiment ties in perfectly as Goulburn's three representatives (aka The Three Amigos) go searching for liberty when it matters most in this Saturday's Newhaven Park Country Championships Final.
Everywhere you look the number "3" hovers over the Goulburn runners. Let's start with the most obvious of the threes.
'3' Goulburn runners in this Saturday's $1m final at Royal Randwick.
1. Bandi's Boy (TAB favourite $2.30 - trained by Danny Williams)
2. Atmospheric Rock ($18 - Danny Williams)
3. Associate ($13 - Danielle Seib)
Then this is where the numbers really get three'd up and gee'd up! Bandi's Boy won the Group 3-Star Kingdom last Saturday at Rosehill Gardens.
Atmospheric Rock ($18) drew gate 3 in the SERA Qualifier at Moruya, the race that parachuted him and connections into Saturday's final. He also won a Class 3 Highway Handicap at Royal Randwick in February (note from gate 13!).
Associate, Danielle Seib's first time Country Championships Finalist, goes into Saturday's million-dollar race courtesy of his dominant Southern Wildcard win at Goulburn which took his total win record to 3.
Still need '3' quotes to be convinced of their chances? Danny Williams tweeting about Bandi's Boy after last Saturday's win.
“This tougher race was a stepping stone to his target in next week’s Country Championships Final and the strong tempo suited the gelding perfectly with jockey Jay Ford able to give the horse a beautiful ride and fully showcase the depth of his talent.
"He wasn't wound down for this race, obviously he was in today for next week which is our Grand Final."
Danielle Seib after Associate took out the Country Championships Southern Wildcard race on her home track at Goulburn.
"He’s lightly raced, we’ve always had a high opinion of him and he has a good horse’s attitude."
Can’t wait for the barrier draw!
Whichever way you ‘trisect it’, come Saturday out Goulburn way, you’ll have no trouble getting '3' cheers as Bandi’s Boy, Atmospheric Rock and Associate chase the ‘ultimate liberty’ in Saturday's $1m Newhaven Park Country Championships Final.
