With the Newhaven Park Country Championships underway Goulburn trainers gave a sharp reminder of their capabilities with a three-gun salute on home surrounds on Thursday.
Danny Williams got the ball rolling in the opening race with the promising Stormy Witness. The three-year-old filly and Robbie Dolan defied a betting drift and utilised all of Goulburn's long straight to prevail by a short head over the Matt Dale trained Dolce Bella.
The Williams camp giving the result the thumbs up on social media after the race posting: "Great result for our owners, Stormy Witness wins first-up!"
Dolan's tablelands trip proved a fruitful one as he made it a winning double on The Seven Seas (John Sargent) in Race 3.
The locals then closed out the eight-race card in stylish fashion by delivering not just winners but trifectas too!
Our Baez (Pat Murphy) managed a barrier to box performance under the urgings of an in-form Shaun Guymer. Our Baez had to dig deep to hold off the fast finishing My Blue Jeans (Danny Williams). Williams' old grey may not have won the race but is going as good as any country trained horse right now.
My Girona (Neil Osborne) rounded out an all Goulburn trifecta in the race.
Arts Object (Kurt Goldman) then justified the short quote as a one out option in the final quaddie leg. The filly was stepping up in distance and won with authority to make it back to back victories, her Australian Oaks nomination no accident.
A bright day for the locals with more racing to come at Goulburn on Thursday 9th March and Friday 17th March (Newhaven Park Country Championships Southern Wild Card Race day).
