Goulburn Race Club close out the calendar year in style with its Christmas Raceday this Friday (20th December).
Christmas gallops Goulburn style is a popular event on the tablelands and with six races, a relaxed start time (Race 1 at 2.10pm) and a balmy summer afternoon forecast, it’s a real ‘stocking filler’ opportunity for industry participants and racegoers alike!
Goulburn Race Club's CEO, Robyn Fife said the 'Christmas at the Races' event is an ideally timed one for the club.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to get together with family, friends or colleagues and toast the festive season,” Ms Fife said.
“Lots of businesses use Friday as an opportunity to host their Christmas functions and its always such a fun, laid back vibe at this time of the year.
“Trackside we have quality live racing action, food and drink vendors, fashions on the field, live entertainment and return courtesy buses to the CBD.”
The adage ‘out with the old and in with the new’ also applies to Friday as it signals the end of Goulburn’s calendar year of racing but also ushers in 2025 with Goulburn hosting events like the Southern Country Championships Wildcard in March.
On Friday, locally trained horses will be out in force early doors looking to secure some Christmas coin for connections.
They hold a strong hand in the opener, the Abernethy Gore Solicitors Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1200m), with eight of the original 11 acceptors. Top four threats abound.
Danny Williams produces raceday proven King Taurus off the back of two recent runner-up results. She Within resumes for the same stable after a stylish winter debut at Wagga.
Pat Murphy gets a read on Rouge Homme on debut with Mitchell Bell to ride after the three-year-old finished close-up in an open class Canberra trial recently.
And Danielle Seib’s filly Xcessive Force (by Brutal) also looks an early learner after improving sharply in her most recent hit out.
Punters looking for some festive season form lines should note that the Danielle Seib stable has a handy strike rate going of late having produced three winners from its last 10 runners.
In the riding ranks Alysha Collett is fresh off a winning double at Newcastle last Saturday and should give a great sight in the jockey’s challenge with a solid book of six rides on the day.
Goulburn District Race Club wishes its members, partners and industry participants a safe and Happy Christmas.
Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 6 with Race 1 on Friday timed to go at 2.10pm.
