Father & Daughter To Figure Prominently At Gundagai (Tuesday)

By Graeme White

Gundagai will be the first club to conduct a meeting this season in the Southern Districts and father and daughter David Blundell and Michelle Teale could play a major role at their home track.

Blundell has won many feature races at Gundagai including the prestigious Snake Gully Cup with local hero Carvalin who carried the black and gold colours of the town’s rugby league club.

Blundell will be represented by impressive last start winner Brie Brie ($12 on TAB) who looks over the odds in the final race.

The favourite Acheson ($2) was an eye-catching first-up winner and has been kept for this race after also being an acceptor at Forbes last Sunday.

Acheson won at Moruya on July 12 over subsequent winner Fourcade and is a deserving favourite as he shoots for three straight wins.

Brie Brie was successful by three lengths on a heavy track at Wagga and will face similar track conditions and drops 0.5kg in the weights.

Zontawah is first-up from a break after going out a winner during the Albury Cup carnival over 2000m.

The gelding is a progressive type with two wins from five attempts but is yet to see a heavy track under race conditions.

Meanwhile, Michelle Teale hopes the time is right for her maiden class horses Cab Perrio ($8) plus Tornado Anwa ($34) and Reward In Time ($6).

Two winners and a quinella would be the perfect result for Teale who trains several horses at the track.

“I had the three of them in the one race but split them up at acceptances. Cab Perrio ran her best race at Gundagai two starts ago when she missed out on winning,” she said.

“She always gives her best and on the wet track and at home she is a chance.

“Reward In Time is first-up for a year. I race him with my Mum and he may need the run.

“Tornado Anwa has only had one start and went alright here.

“The track is going to be heavy. My horses are fit and working well so hopefully they can run decent races.”

Last start winners Brial Tose ($3.10 favourite), Aqualina’s Star ($5.50), Sutton Vella ($4.40) and Wegotabetterhoffa ($7 into $4.80) line-up in the NSW Jockeys Association Country Boosted Class 1 (1000m).

Brial Rose won by four lengths at Narrandera first-up over Maybe Maureen which has since been successful at Forbes.

Aqualina’s Star is also a progressive type who has a second to his credit over subsequent Sydney winner Martini Mumma.

Wegotabetterhoffa was also a first-up winner while Sutton Vella went out with success and has drawn well in gate two.
