Excellent Contest To Bring Curtain Down On Muswellbrook (Today)

By Neil Evans

A little slice of strike rate history goes on the line at today's Muswellbrook meeting.

Never before has a consistent group of non-carnival sprinters brought in so much winning form to a midweek country race.

It all happens in the Widden Stud BM 74 Handicap showdown over 1000m to close the meeting in what looms as not only the best betting battle on the day, but also superior form guide for punters heading towards spring.

Even with early favorite Custo (four wins from 11) set to miss the race after winning at Dubbo's feature meeting yesterday, the chief rivals all come in with a swag of winning form.

Talented Scone mare Outishka ($3.30 favourite on TAB) is third-up and aiming to take her winning strike rate to a high class 43% from 12 starts.

A versatile daughter of Outreach and trained by Scott Singleton, Outishka has only missed a place twice in her career, and comes in behind a fast-finishing BM 64 win at Newcastle.

But there's likely plenty of support coming for resuming five-year-old Last Frontier ($4) who is out to claim a fourth win from only five starts.

Based at Tamworth with Cody Morgan, Last Frontier has been fitted with two progressive trials, and will race without blinkers for the first time. Yet the challengers don't stop there.

Promising Scone mare Fill A Promise ($5) is chasing a remarkable fifth straight win this prep at just her 13th start, and four weeks after leading all the way at Quirindi.

On their heels as well is smart Narromine-based mare Sisters Pick ($7) who boasts five wins from only 13 starts, and looks well placed third-up from the inside draw.

Even $9.50 chance Aquarter (five from 16) boasts impressive winning strike rates.

In fact, the entire field has clocked up 61 individual career wins at a staggering strike line of every 4.6 times they go around.
