With a heritage of being home to many outstanding racehorses, Queanbeyan Racing Club is a major racing and training centre with approximately 100 horses currently in work.
The Club conducts 12 race meetings annually, racing from early in spring to late autumn each season.
Adjacent to the Australian Capital Territory, Queanbeyan Racing Club is also the home racecourse for more than 50,000 people living in Queanbeyan and its suburbs as well as nearby Jerrabomberra and Googong.
Queanbeyan Racing Club is looking to appoint a leader to develop and grow the organisation in line with the direction and values of the Club and to serve both Queanbeyan’s community and the racing industry in the region.
The Role
The General Manager, reporting to the Board, will be responsible for the management of Queanbeyan Racing Club affairs and activities including the effective administration of the business, including oversight of all racing and training activities, events, functions, and will lead and mentor all staff and contractors.

The successful candidate will understand and relish the opportunity to work with and to the benefit of the Club and multiple stakeholders from within thoroughbred racing and the Queanbeyan community. You will be strongly driven to make a big difference, with a hunger, work ethic and a “can do” outlook to match.
This is a full-time position with the requirement to work weekends to facilitate race meetings.
The General Manager will ideally possess all or most of:
• Good racing knowledge
• Strong organising, communication, and public relation skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Capacity to engage with people at all levels to build positive working relationships
• Ability to motivate staff and provide leadership within a team and manage staff at all levels
• A knowledge of and involvement in Australian Racing and Racing NSW and their respective rules
• Capacity to work with the Racing Industry Governing Body and comply with all standards, policies and procedures
• Understanding of Work, Health and Safety legislation and ability to manage risks
• Capacity to oversee budget preparation, financial analysis, planning, reporting, marketing, compliance/governance, and event management
