Chief Executive Officer (Muswellbrook Race Club)

1. Position Objectives
The General Manager reports to the Board of Muswellbrook Race Club providing strategic and operational leadership and is responsible for the day-to-day business management and administration of the club and the overall performance of the organisation. The position is full-time and there will be the necessity on occasions to work on weekends in the preparation of and management of racedays as scheduled as required.

2. Duties & Responsibilities
2.1 Racing

• Co-ordinate all raceday administration.
• Manage and be responsible for all raceday activities.
• Co-ordinate and be responsible for raceday personnel.
• Review raceday programming and raceday scheduling in conjunction with Racing NSW.
• Ensure Minimum Standards of a “Country A” Club of Racing NSW is adhered to at all times.
• Attend to the reporting requirements of Racing NSW Country following race meetings.

2.2 Marketing and Public Relations
• Develop a marketing plan to promote all race meetings and non-raceday events.
• Develop and manage existing sponsorship plans for Club sponsors and to procure new sponsorship.
• Manage all social media platforms in collaboration with the marketing team (where available); including development and sharing of content to help grow engagement with Muswellbrook Race Club Members and Social Media Followers.
• Develop Club Membership initiatives.
• Develop and manage relationships and a customer focus with stakeholders, members and industry participants including racehorse owners and trainers.
• Develop, manage and leverage commercial relationships with racing and general media and any other person associated with the club to develop racing at Muswellbrook and the industry.
• Develop and manage strategies to attract horses to compete at Club meetings.
• Work closely and in conjunction with the Muswellbrook Race Club Board to ensure the marketing and promotion of the Club is aligned with the Club’s Strategic Plan.

2.3 Finance
• Provide the Board with financial reports and advice.
• Prepare monthly and annual budgets in conjunction with Racing NSW Country and the Muswellbrook Race Club Board. Prepare monthly analysis of actual results against budget.
• Co-ordinate and manage relationships with the Club’s accountant and auditor and assist in the preparation and completion of financial statements and lodgement with Fair Trading and associated documents with ASIC.
• Experience and knowledge in the use of MYOB accounting software. This also includes the ability to interpret MYOB documents, profit and loss and various financial documents when reporting to the board and stakeholders.
• Co-ordinate and be responsible for the Club’s payroll, including employee entitlements.
• Responsibility for the Club’s compliance with the Australian Taxation Office, including co-ordination and management of the lodgement of Business Activity Statements and associated Payroll data.
• Co-ordinate and be responsible for conducting of the Club’s Annual General Meeting in conjunction with, and pursuant to, the Club’s Constitution.
• Develop an understanding of the Racing NSW Country Scheme of Distribution and its impact on club performance.

2.4 Capital Works Program
• Develop and manage capital works plans and oversee the administration of all projects.
• Actively explore and seek financial assistance, grants and subsidies from Government, private bodies and racing.

3. Organisational Relationships
• The General Manager is to report to the Chairman and the Board of MRC.
• Attend Board meetings and ensure the accurate recording of minutes.

- Track Manager & Staff
- Bar & Events Co-Ordinator & Staff
- Caterers

• Liaise with:
- H&NWRA Executives & Stewards
- Racing NSW
- Racing NSW Country
- NSW TAB
- MRC’s Accountant & Auditor (Davies, Thompson & Wright)
- Participants, owners, trainers and jockeys association
- Media

4. General Manager Skillset
• Leadership, personnel management experience and the ability to motivate a team.
• Strong written, verbal and communication skills.
• Time management skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy to receive, deliver and record information.
• Competency in word, excel and an understanding of MYOB accounting software.
• Experience in accounting and budgetary procedures.

5. Knowledge
• Knowledge of the Racing industry.

6. Experience
• Proven quality management background.
• Ability to manage staff at all levels.

7. Work Health and Safety
• The General Manager will be responsible for the co-ordination of the work place health and safety platform. The General Manager will be aware of the workplace risks and promote the Work Place Health and Safety Policies of MRC and Racing NSW.

8. Racing NSW
• Complete the annual Racing NSW Club Registration Application and understand the conditions and requirements for maintaining Registration.
• Develop an understanding the Racing NSW Minimum Standards of a Category “A” Country Race Club and adherence to these standards.
• Develop an understanding of the Racing NSW Country Secretary Manual and the Club Business Process Guide (currently being developed).

9. General

• Build and promote the Muswellbrook Race Club Brand.
• Develop and manage a cohesive Muswellbrook Race Club culture in conjunction with the Club Board that is inclusive of all stakeholders.
• Develop, co-ordinate and manage Drive a customer centric, high performance team culture.
• Maximise staff effectiveness.
• Provide business advice to the Board including updates on risks facing the Club.
• Manage the implementation of Muswellbrook Race Club Board decisions.
• Develop and manage strategies to increase raceday sponsorship, race day patron numbers and on-course revenue.
• Develop and manage strategies that generate non-raceday revenue, including growth of events and functions.
