Keith Dryden, having one of his finest seasons and with two outstanding prospects readying for bigger occasions, contends with lesser tiered runners at the Moruya TAB meeting on Friday.
Dryden has six starters, maiden and lower graders throughout Moruya’s seven-race program, a track where the 2019 The Kosciuszko winner rarely misses over decades.
Friday’s runners are not remotely in the class of Sister Moon or Vinolass, unbeaten with seven wins between them, but it’s business as usual for the 40-year ACT trainer.
“Live chances in their right races, would best describe the day, some progressive types,” Dryden offered with 47 winners so far this season.
“Sister Moon is back in work, obviously hoping she progresses for a Kosciuszko slot, Vinolass is still in the spelling paddock.”
Best advice for punters is to look for the better drawn of the Dryden runners, vital at tight and turning Moruya. And lightly raced with upside.
This applies with three-year-old filly Pretty Eyed ($3 favourite on TAB) who significantly was odds-odds resuming for a Sapphire Coast placing and also favourite at Wagga Wagga in 1000m maidens after winning a debut trial.
She has barrier five for James Innes Jnr in the fourth race, the Cameron's Hardware Moruya Maiden (1200m).
“As good a chance as any of mine, she’s looking for more ground, out to the 1200m suits her, fitter second-up, trained on OK.”
Stablemates Diamond Star ($4.40 fav) and Lock Up the Kittens ($5) will both run in the fifth event, the Urban Pools And Spas Bm58 Handicap (1650m).
“Not much between them, maybe a preference for Diamond Star any luck from the draw (7) off those two strong recent placings.”
Accomplished local trainer Natalie Jarvis invariably contends with numbers as does Moruya regulars Team Price.
At present Moruya is a Soft 5 in fine weather.
