Davies Hoping For More 'Heroics' With In-Form Galloper (Goulburn, Friday)

South Coast trainer Lauren Davies tackles the trek from Moruya to Goulburn on Friday safe in the knowledge she has a real 'horses for courses chance' in tow with stable tough guy Heromania.

He scored a last start victory at the tablelands track three weeks back when winning a Benchmark 66 over 2100m, the margin a decisive three and a quarter lengths.

His trainer indicating the result was a reaffirmation of Heromania's peak form which has given her options with his schedule this week.

"Heromania has trained on really well since his win at Goulburn last start, we had planned to run him at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in a 2100m but unfortunately did not get a run, so we had to go for plan B and Goulburn was the next option."

Heromania lines up in Race 5, the Goulburn Carpet Court B58 Hcp over 1600m, with Davies' five-year-old galloper a $5 chance on TAB to slot back-to-back wins.

Jeff Penza was the pilot last start and is pledged for the ride on Friday.

A Goulburn winter isn't for everyone but Heromania loves the joint, Davies referencing his 'horses for courses' record at the tablelands track.

"He has always run really well there, with five starts for two wins, a second, a fourth and a 7th when only beaten 2 lengths."

Davies trains a small string of gallopers and has made autumn a sweet season form find with her country travel schedule netting four wins from her last nine runners.

Heromania has been a super consistent performer for the stable over a six-month period with the odd freshen-up here and there a real key according to Davies.

"We have had a lot of fun with him this preparation as he has matured mentally and physically and I think we have really learnt a lot on how he likes to be trained with a few days' paddock rest after each race to recover."

Davies says it's no surprise that his form and fitness has improved with maturity.

"He hasn't been the easiest horse to train in past preparations but is a delight now. He is an easy horse to keep fit as he really enjoys his trackwork.

"He is a very big strong horse standing at 17.1 hands with big sound legs (touch wood) so hopefully we will get a lot more fun and racing out of him yet."

Davies also added that Heromania's mother Rosecoloredglasses was a handy country performer for her family and they've been thrilled to see some genetic gumption passed on!

"We raced his Mum who won eleven of her twelve races for us and we bred Heromania from her so he is like part of our family. She's now living out her days in a life of luxury at one of Heromania's owners' place!"

Friday’s competitive eight-race card points the compass towards a strong program of winter racing action at Goulburn with six meetings scheduled over the next three months, culminating with the $200,000 Goulburn Cup (1400m) which is now on Sunday 25th August.

Friday's eight-race card kicks off at midday with plenty of intrigue around the strong list of two-year-old acceptors for Race 6 the GG Engineering 2YO maiden over 1000m.
