Tabulam Cup winner, Traconi, is one of the nominations for Saturday’s $10,000 Evans Head Cup (1516m). The Stephen Bennett-trained Casino mare headlines a small nomination list which includes Armidale, Grafton, Gold Coast and Beaudesert horses on a TAB program which attracted 75 nominations.
Traconi gave her Casino butcher a third Tabulam Cup success and has won both of runs back this preparation after she also won on resuming from a freshener on her home Casino track. She has now won six of her 37 starts.
Four of Saturday’s six races have had nominations extended, advised Lismore Turf Club's secretary-manager, Scott Jones.
“Should be a good day though with the Evans Head Bowling Club one of the major sponsors,” Scott Jones said of a club who travels with a busload of punters and racegoers. “We also have a few other little groups. The track should be good too. We’ve missed most of the wet weather over here and the track is perfect at the moment. Would be a Soft 5.”
He said the club also races again on Friday December 22: “That’s our Christmas Seafood Luncheon, always a great day,” he said.
While the Evans Head Cup, an open handicap, had six nominations the LTC has also extended nominations for the Benchmark 55 1516m handicap, the Class 3 1400m and Maiden 1516m Handicap. They have been extended until 11am Tuesday when nominations for next Monday’s Ballina meeting are also due.
Ballina Jockey Club has a seven-race TAB program highlighted by a $20,000 Aquis Farm Open Handicap (1250m), advised BJC general manager, Matt Bertram. He said it will be interesting to see if nominations do stand up given Grafton race today, Lismore race on Saturday and his club on Monday: “Fingers crossed,” he said.
