Murwillumbah Standing Alone On Wednesday

By Mark Brassel

Murwillumbah will have the full spotlight on Wednesday with no metropolitan race meeting programmed.

Its CHG Integrated Wealth Tweed Coast Classic Final Day with the seven-race TAB card kicking off at 2:15pm where the track is rated a Soft 7 under clear skies.

The main race is the $34,000 Tweed Coast Classic Final over 1200m where Halfahope is the $3.90 TAB favourite in front of Bungarribee Lad ($4.40) and Gerety ($5).

Another feature is the $27,000 Lotza Signs Open Handicap (1550m) where a guaranteed spot in the Ballina Cup (a Big Dance eligible event on Friday 19th January) is up for grabs.

Silver Warrior is the $2.60 TAB favourite in advance of Kipling’s Journey ($4.60) and Dorset Coast ($5.50).

Then on Thursday, Nambucca River Jockey Club will stage their annual Phillip Hughes Memorial Day at Bowraville with the feature honouring the former Australian test cricketer who tragically died at the SCG in 2014.

Phillip was born at nearby Macksville to his banana farmer father and regularly made the 15km trek to Bowraville races.

He attended the course regularly and loved to join his local mates for a relaxed day out when he did not have cricket commitments.
