Albury trainer Donna Scott has locked in her contender for the Country Championships following the win of Villasaurus at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and will be hoping to add a few more in the months ahead.
It’s back to normal business for the stable at Corowa on Monday with five runners of which all are capable of finishing in the top three.
She will saddle up Imposing Tallulah ($6 on TAB) in the Corowa-Rutherglen Football Netball Club Benchmark 58 (1600m) who will be ridden by Lachlan King.
Stablemates Keith ($7.50) and Gijima Gal ($3.70 favourite) are next in the Ian Bilney Life Member Benchmark 58 (1300m) followed by Valspar in the Campbells Wines Rutherglen Class 1 (1400m).
Valspar ($2 fav) is a last start winner and will be ridden by John Kissick who will also ride Gijima Gal.
Former Caulfield Cup-winning rider Cory Parish has the mount on noted leader Keith and will also be aboard Champagne Sharon ($8.50) in the Federation Stakes Class 3 (1000m).
No stranger to success in the Country Championships, Scott said it was exciting g to have Villasaurus heading in the right direction for the SDRA Country Championships in March.
“He has always shown a lot of talent and his trials in Victoria had been good so we weren’t worried about taking him to Sydney first-up,” she said.
“It was a long way to go so you have to make sure they are ready to win.”
The Scott stable could easily finish with multiple winners and placings with Valspar the most likely to succeed.
Valspar ran second to stablemate Wings Of Carmen at Albury before breaking through for his first victory at start number nine at Wagga. He comes up against impressive debut winner Strummer ($3) who lived up to some promising trials with success at Albury.
Meanwhile, Scott will again switch her focus to Randwick on Tuesday with Our Last Cash ($41) contesting The Barn Dance worth $250,000.
Albury galloper Bianco Vilano ($7.50) will also start along with stablemate Baledon ($31) as well as Cavalier Charles ($13) and Super Helpful ($26).
Suparazi (Gundagai Snake Gully Cup-$12), Prince Of Helena (Narrandera Cup-$71) and Zouatica (Moruya Cup-$81) will run in the $3 million The Big Dance.
Bellestic Kids (second in the Snake Gully Cup-$13) will start in All Occasion Cruises Handicap (1500m) while young apprentice jockey Coriah Keatings has one of her biggest days in the saddle with the mount on Lockdown Gamble ($126) in the Big Dance.
Wagga Town Plate winner The Prodigal Son ($13) returns to racing in the final event on the program, the Alinta Energy Handicap (1200m).
