In a racing season of career highlights, nothing will compare to the thrill of winning your first metropolitan race for apprentice jockey Coriah Keatings.
The 23-year-old achieved the feat with Toes In The Water at Rosehill on Saturday for her boss Nick Olive for whom she has ridden the largest amount of winners (11 wins from 39 rides)
Keatings has a few more goals to achieve in the last month of the racing season with a realistic target being 50 victories
She could add to the tally at Corowa on Monday with three rides – Master Of Disguise, Chipstar and Starliv.
The statistics back up Keatings' record this season with 43 winners, 31 seconds and 32 thirds from 303 rides.
She has ridden seven winners from her last 50 rides and is in contention to win some club country apprenticeship titles.
Keatings' rise can be detailed in her previous season figures of seven wins (2022) and 17 (2023).
She rode a career monthly best of eight winners in June and six in May with a high place percentage also of 35 per cent.
Her percentages for Master Of Disguise’s trainer Danielle Seib and Matthew Kelley who prepares Starliv puts them in contention.
She has ridden three winners from eight mounts for Seib and four from 17 for Kelley.
Starliv has won two and been placed at two of her past five starts and is one of many chance sin the Barlens Hire Benchmark 66 (1000m).
Starliv was ready to be retired before winning at Canberra in March and she has won again since with Keatings aboard at Canberra.
Impressive last start winner Hulm ($1.65 NSW TAB) dominated his latest start and should be able to lead despite a wider draw.
Starliv ($5.50) is the second favourite for the in-form Kelley stable which has produced 12 winners in recent months.
Meanwhile, Magmetric will race for the third time in as many weeks after an effortless victory at Albury last week.
He will line-up as the $2.30 favourite for trainer Ron Stubbs and jockey Josh Richards.
Stubbs said the 1200 metres of the Corowa IGA Super IGA Class 3 (1200m) were ideal.
“I don’t see any concern with him racing again after last week. It’s more so if the track is too wet for him and it’s now at a seven compared to a five,” Stubbs said.
The query starters are Star Buyer and Lunar Shoes – the latter having his first start since winning at Wagga in November of 2022.
He looked strong running well in a recent trial at Wagga, while Star Buyer was formerly trained by Peter Maher at Wodonga and is now under the care of Matthew Dale.
Go Ellie Go was a first-up winner at Albury and also the first career victory for apprentice jockey Ella McGuirk.
She added another to the list at Gundagai on Saturday courtesy of Katie Express for her master Wayne Carroll who celebrated a double on the day with Mayfair Hotel.
Dale will also start another stable newcomer in Missouk in the Life Member Len Rhodes Class 1 (1000m).
Missouk was formerly trained by Peter and Paul Snowden and has recommendable provincial form against higher quality opposition.
Baggage Handler is the $1.85 favourite on the NSW TAB after a win and a second in two career starts.
Soo Kiss Me boasts similar career figures with three starts for a win and two seconds and is another of the contenders.
