Coonamble Winners - Tips For Sunday 10th October

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Coonamble.

Race 1 - 12:35PM WOODHAM PETROLEUM MAIDEN SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Galbalan was heavily backed at Port Macquarie first up on the back of an exceptional trial win at Wyong and when he kicked clear half way down the straight it looked to be race over, only for a debutant to run him down. There was five lengths back to third.

Dangers: 3. Girragulang fought out the finish at Narromine on debut over 1100m and being a three-year-old colt by Divine Prophet, the step out to 1300m looks in his favour at start number two. Draws to follow Galbalan wherever he goes.

How to play it: Galbalan WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 2 - 1:10PM QUBE AGRI MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (1100 METRES)

1. Akaka Falls won’t be a maiden for too much longer. Was beaten by a smart one at Dubbo two back, with third and fourth winning since, before just going down at Scone over 900m despite covering ground throughout. His turn will come.

Dangers: 6. The Big Seal was backed as if unbeatable on debut in Queensland, jumping $1.70. He ran second and has since been transferred to Clint Lundholm. Market moves are significant. 10. Miss Chapeau best of the rest.

How to play it: Akaka Falls WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 3 - 1:45PM PARAGON PASTORAL CLASS 2 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Pyrmont started life under Peter Sinclair with a fast finishing second behind Boom Boom Basil. Won’t be forced to go back to last this time from the better draw either. Wasn’t beaten far by some top class horses when trained by David Payne. Has found his race.

Dangers: 6. Bean Hot has a sticky draw to overcome but he’s hard to beat with any luck. It’ll pay to follow this lightly raced sprinter. 2. Brothers Of Antrim was a dominant first up winner and fits into this race well.

How to play it: Pyrmont WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 4 - 2:20PM SHOWCASE PICNIC CHAMPIONSHIP (1400 METRES)

The set weights conditions of this feature really suits the class runners like 7. On A Promise. She’s a rightful favourite having won three on the bounce this campaign for Brett Robb. Jumps from 1100m to 1400m but she’s fourth up now and is 13:3-4-1 over the trip. Hard to knock.

Dangers: Consistent gelding 5. Madison Point is another one that should be giving away plenty of weight to his lesser credentialed rivals. If there is a knockout, it’s 2. Drummed Out. Has found 1000m way too sharp recently.

How to play it: On A Promise WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 5 - 2:55PM NUTRIEN AG SOLUTIONS CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

Kody Nestor looks to hold the key to this race but siding with the longer priced of his duo 5. Red Roger. A couple of runs shut on this gelding at his first run for his new stable at Dubbo. There was late support for him in betting too. Keep an eye on any market confidence again here.

Dangers: 1. Super Chance flopped at a mile two back but responded well to a little freshen and dropping back to 1300m at Dubbo last start. There was a lot to like about how he attacked the line to just miss to Notabadidea.

How to play it: Red Roger EACH WAY ($12TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 6 - 3:35PM SWANNY’S FOODS BENCHMARK 66 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. Lucky Banner was run off her feet first up over 1000m at Randwick in a Highway Handicap. Although she ran second last, she was doing her best work through the line. The step out to 1400m second up can see her improve sharply at odds.

Dangers: 3. Boom Boom Basil has won three of his six starts and was a tenacious all-the-way winner at Tamworth last start. Expect the 1400m to suit. It’ll all fall into place for 8. Gadfly shortly. Continues to race well in this company.

How to play it: Lucky Banner EACH WAY ($11 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 7 - 4:10PM KEADY FAMILY COONAMBLE SHOWCASE CRYSTAL SPRINT (1200 METRES)

8. Mandalong Tapit is more of a miler but he should have finished closer over 1200m at Tamworth last start. Suspect he has returned very well. There is a lot of speed engaged here and drawn perfectly, expect the grey to be charging late at odds.

Dangers: 5. Toro Toro will get the drop on the leaders and is rarely far away. 13. Denace just found 1000m too sharp at Orange last start. She wants this trip now and with extra pressure up front, can turn the tables on 2. Classy Rebel.

How to play it: Mandalong Tapit EACH WAY ($21 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 8 - 4:47PM GERONIMO – NEW HOLLAND AGRICULTURE COONAMBLE SHOWCASE CUP (1600 METRES)

8. Rich And Shameless is racing like he wants the mile now. He has only had one crack at the trip in the past, and he won. Forgive his last start seventh as he was cluttered up on the fence and never really got clear. Maps to get the run of the race.

Dangers: 3. Aesop’s Fable would be on top if not for the barrier. How big of a start will she be forced to give away from out there? She is flying. 15. Notabadidea stuck on well enough last start at 1300m. Wants further and gets that now fourth up.

How to play it: Rich And Shameless EACH WAY ($10 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 9 - 5:30PM THE NALDER FAMILY COUNTRY MAGIC SHOWCASE CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

6. Ollivander has been up since April but hasn’t put in too many bad runs in all that time. Won five starts back at Dubbo and has been in the placings in three of his past four since. The prospect of a wet track can see him chalk up another win over his best trip.

Dangers: 8. Prodigal Prince looks ready to win third up out to the mile but the barrier makes things a touch tricky for Grant Buckley. The four-year-old still has some upside and like the way he has found the line in his two runs back.

How to play it: Ollivander EACH WAY ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS
