Despite being unplaced at Cobar picnics on Saturday, Billy Bent Ear has finished on top of the ladder for the 2023 NSW Picnic Champion Series.

The Connie Greig-trained Billy Bent Ear ran fourth to stablemate Belle O'Ballee in the Copper Sprint Trophy (1200m) and finished the point score with 50 points.

Wins at Cobar by Belle O'Ballee and Gossip (in the DJW & Wells Ventilation Cobar Picnic Cup, 1700m) pushed that pair to equal second place on 37 points.

Greig's Blackhill Kitty, and Valadyium were next on the ladder with 31 points.

The Connie Greig stable finished with nine of the top 11 horses on the points score ensuring they have plenty of representatives in the $50,000 NSW Picnic Champion Series Final (1400m) at Coonamble on Sunday 8 October.

"Connie Greig was yet again an outstanding competitor and supporter of picnic racing and we wish her and the other trainers that have travelled all over the state the best of luck for the Championship Final at Coonamble on October 8," said Deidre Adam, secretary of the NSW Picnic Racing Association.
