Clubs Combine For South Coast Staying Series

The Sapphire Coast Turf Club and Moruya Jockey Club have combined to launch a Staying Series to be held on both tracks over the 2018-2019 summer season.

Known as the South Coast Staying Series, it will be part of the South Coast Summer of Racing which comprises of six meetings with over $1.2 million in prizemoney on offer.

Kicking off with a 1600m BM66 on January 2nd at Sapphire Coast (Bega Cup Prelude), the Series continues through a 2000m BM66 on January 21st on Narooma Cup day at Moruya and culminates with a 2200m BM66 at Sapphire Coast on February 3rd, the final day of the Bega Cup Carnival.

Prizemoney for the three race series includes a $5000 bonus to the series winner, a $3000 bonus to a trainer who trains two of the three winners, plus trophies for the winning owner and trainer.

Points for each race will be allocated as follows:

1600m: 1st - 9; 2nd - 6; 3rd - 4; 4th - 2; Starter - 1.

2000m: 1st - 12; 2nd - 9; 3rd - 7; 4th - 5; Starter - 3.

2200m: 1st - 18; 2nd - 14; 3rd - 12; 4th - 10; Starter - 5.

The management and committee of both clubs are excited about the series and hope that it will grow into an annual event as part of the South Coast Summer of Racing where we can showcase the best local staying horses alongside our beautiful stretch of pristine coastline.

Owners, trainers and their families are encouraged to visit the South Coast’s many attractions combined with some exciting racing at both venues.
