‘Tis the season to be jolly – you know what time of year it is – and kicking off the festivities on Friday is Goulburn Race Club with their raceday themed ‘Christmas at the Races’.
GRC’s Jayne Hedley said they’re expecting a sizeable crowd to join in the day.

“It’s a great opportunity for people and businesses to celebrate the end of year with their staff and friends. The gates open at midday, and we’ll also have live entertainment.
“Friday is also special as we will be running the Fred Cooper Cup for the first time since Fred’s passing in August.”
Mr Cooper was affectionately known as ‘Lord of the Lawnmower’ and performed many years of dedicated service for the Club incorporating roles such as president and director.
Fred was also awarded the first ever Simon Nivison Special Achievement Award for service to Country Racing in 1999/2000.
His tireless efforts in the development and upkeep of the Goulburn track helped play a major part in making it one of the most competitive racing surfaces in NSW.
“Friday’s raceday sponsors are Goulpro, Ray White, Swiftwood Tiles & Bathrooms, Complete Plumbing Solutions, The Ultimate Horse Shop, Goulburn Soldiers Club and Brad Writer Constructions.”
Narrandera Race Club will host its Christmas Party Charity race meeting on Saturday with six races and the gates opening at 11:30am.
“It will be a tremendous afternoon with a Fashions on the Field offering $6000 in prizes including a 5-night package courtesy of Crown Plaza Gold Coast,” said Michael Bailey, NRC’s secretary/manager.
“We’ll also have entertainment by the outstanding acoustic duo Jerry and George, along with free kids’ rides and activities.
“Public and private marquees are available and proceeds on the day go to Narrandera Hospital Auxiliary. The day is supported by Narrandera Shire Council, the NSW Government and Racing NSW.”
Next Sunday is Narooma Cup Day at Moruya Racecourse with a Cup Calcutta on Saturday night at Club Dalmeny.
“We are encouraging people to make a weekend of it,” said Moruya Jockey Club’s executive officer, Ken Brown.
“Our on-course facilities include a bar, TAB and bookmakers as well as food at the Rotary run kiosk and the Moruya Ice Cream Café servicing the Member’s room, Cut and Run Pizza, Mr Salubrious (Mexican cuisine) and D’Lish D’Lite Donuts. There will also be the Caffeissimo Coffee Van.
“We have a Fashions on the Field competition, and a bus service will be running from Club Narooma and Club Tuross.”
Note the Lismore race meeting scheduled for Friday has been transferred to Ballina.
