Burleigh And ‘Flossy’ Flying Along (Goulburn Tuesday)

Goulburn Race Club ushers in the new year with its first race meeting of 2025 on Tuesday and local trainer Tash Burleigh has the chance to continue her sharp start to the new calendar year.

Burleigh has secured a seamless transition between the two calendars blending her strong finish to 2024 into more winning results over the past month.

The stable has a winning strike rate of 42 percent humming along from its last 14 runners. That could have been even stronger with another two-runner-up results part of her recent racing recoup.

Burleigh has made a playground of the South-East and Southern Districts in recent months notching six winners (to go with another seven prior to that) thanks to the astute placement of some in form gallopers.

“We've had a lovely run lately, a winning double last outing brought us up to 13 winners in our last 50 starts, with only a small team of horses, we are pretty happy with that!”

Flying Flossy has been front and centre of the winning roll, the consistent mare returning from a break in streaky style for Burleigh and connections.

If you offered any trainer a win and a runner up result from two starts with a horse that’s been spelling for over six-months they’d gladly take it, and Burleigh is along for the ride on that.

“I was so happy with her first run back, albeit a nice drop back in grade. She was honest and coming back from a lengthy spell made it sweeter,” Burleigh offered.

“Her second start back was super brave, and I hope she can bring that courage to the races at Goulburn on Tuesday.”

Flying Flossy ($9 TAB Fixed Odds) is all set to embrace a home track opportunity at Goulburn in the opening race on the card, the Goulburn Australia Class 4 Country Boosted Country Championship Preview over 1300m.

Burleigh says she’s thrilled the mare has turned things around this campaign and remains in the right type of form to replicate more returns for connections.

“Last preparation she was a little lack lustre, and she just wasn't firing the same way she had previously, so we decided to give her the winter off.”

“She's come back swinging around the stables, eating great, working great, looking great! She's been putting in one hundred percent and I hope she can continue to show that on race day.”

Flying Flossy has made consistency her trademark offering to date, banking top three money in fifty percent of her sixteen starts, including three wins and four runner-up results.

Bulrleigh says the horse has pretty much found her own way to Tuesday’s race courtesy of her sharp form.

“This race wasn't always on the radar, being a Class 4 I thought it could attract some stiff competition being at Goulburn.”

“But I'd like to give her a run on her home track as her owners are local, and dropping back to 1300m should suit after a good three and a half weeks between runs.”

“'Floss’ has been a great mare for her first-time horse owners and just as fruitful for the stable.”

Goulburn wraps up an Australia Day weekend with a long tail of racing, offering a strong seven-race card on Tuesday which also doubles as an ideal Country Championships heads up opportunity.

The tablelands club offers the final qualifying opportunity for this year's Evergreen Turf Country Championships Final when they host the Southern Country Championships Wildcard on Sunday 23rd March. The $150 000, 1400m race represents the last bona fide opportunity for trainers and connections to secure passage into the lucrative $1m Country Championships Final at Royal Randwick on Day 1 of The Star Championships (Saturday April 5th).

Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 7 for Tuesday’s seven race card with warm weather forecast Monday and Tuesday., Race 1, the Goulburn Australia Class 4 Country Boosted Country Championship Preview opens proceedings at 1.50pm.
