Buckley Picks Up Six Nice Rides At Scone (Tuesday)

With The Kosciuszko tickets on sale and excitement levels rising, the 2020 winner Brett Cavanough and regular ally Grant Buckley, with a full book, combine regularly at Tuesday’s Scone TAB meeting.

The rich race contenders are emerging with Opal Ridge’s Highway profile compared to Cavanough’s brilliant winner It’s Me as the stable has strong contenders where the absolute necessity is heavy track form.

Over to 2300 plus career winner “Bucks” who rides prime chances for Cavanough, also Scone veteran Stephen Jones and Dubbo’s Clint Lundholm.

“Big advantages the home trackers if they raced well on rain-affected and worked on it,” Buckley offered, upbeat but wary.

“If it plays the very worst side of heavy it’s an unknown. But if they’re happy to run on it, it’s a show of confidence. Then I’m happy to be on them.”

Buckley travels from his Hawkesbury base armed with the assessments of his wife Chantelle, a former star apprentice and respected form analyst for Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“Like having a computer beside me when I do my form,” Grant quipped.

Cavanough’s Rhythm Is a Dancer ($4.20 on TAB) contests the Kia Ora, Country Boosted Mdn, 1200m and Quatre Zip ($5) and SRC Ladies Day, Country Boosted BM 58, 1400m.

“Ridden them both, progressive four-year olds, runs have been solid, given me a nice feel, they’ll run well in suitable races home track.

“Rhythm Is a Dancer hasn’t been on heavy, but he’s placed twice here on soft, so I think he’ll get through it. We got beaten in a photo on Quatre Zip on a heavy nine, so has to run again well again.

“The Jones mare (Mesinjit) is a really nice type, has the breeding (More Than Ready) only had the two runs back from a spell, strong winning 900m here and really good again in probably a harder Muswellbrook race, both on soft tracks.

“So, she should get through it and has to be more improvement you’d think.”

Scone at present is a Heavy 8 in overcast conditions.
