In-form apprentice Billy Owen bounded into third place in the 2018-19 Racing NSW Rising Star Series and landed a plunge in the process, when successful in the Nowra heat on Monday.
Owen had to throw everything at Garros ($6 into $4.60) for the gelding to get up in the last bound and score by a nose.
The win deprived the Series leader, Jenny Duggan, of a fourth consecutive heat victory when runner-up on Taqueda ($3.10).
Stacey Metcalfe picked up three points for finishing third on roughie Ten Tigers ($61).
Duggan continues to lead the Series with 47 points, Wendy Peel is second (32 points) but Owen has now raced into third place with 27 points.
It was the fifth successive heat that Owen has picked up points.
The next round - heat 18 - will be run on the Kensington Track, Wednesday 6th March.
