Another Win Looms Large For Get Some Fun (Port Macquarie, Sunday)

By Rod Fuller

With an unblemished record on the new track surface under her belt, Get Some Fun is poised for further progression through the ranks with victory at Port Macquarie on Sunday.

Despite stepping up from Class 1 company to a high benchmark event, the daughter of Wandjina looks above average after an outstanding maiden win late last month before leading all the way to account for rivals on Cup Day.

After a narrow second on debut at Tuncurry, the Karen Owen-trained filly broke her maiden status with great authority when accounting for Diamondsaremio by just over four lengths and was able to withstand the finishing effort of Pony Soprano at her most recent performance over 1200m.

The great asset for Get Some Fun is the ability to race on the speed and this has been advantageous in the early pattern on the reconstructed circuit together with the dropping back in distance for Sunday’s assignment.

Maddie Owen has been engaged by her mum for the ride and the popular apprentice hoop is having a great run of success in recent times after wins at the local circuit together with Grafton and Hawkesbury.

With the jockey and trainer combination enjoying a stellar partnership, many keen judges are anticipating another forward performance for Get Some Fun in the Char Bar Catering Handicap at Port on Sunday.

Heir Apparent accounted for Dis is Heaven at his home track last start and the John Sprague trained gelding looks to provide the testing material in the event and the appointment of Mollie Fitzgerald provides further confidence.

The promising hoop is set to continue her apprenticeship with the city training combination of Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald with the son of Cable Bay having a wonderful strike rate at his home circuit having scored on four occasions from eight appearances.

Theresa Bateup rarely travels around the state from her Kembla Grange training base without entering the winner’s circle and this could continue when she presents Direct Fire for the race following placings at Sapphire Coast and Wagga when previously in work.

The striking black gelding resumed with a strong second in a recent barrier trial and following the money might be the wise option when assessing his chances.

I am Sugoi is Japanese for amazing, great and wonderful with the well-named gelding possessing a solid chance in the fifth event on the program.

The son of Kobayashi is having his fourth run in the preparation and comes into the event with a sound placing behind Edge of Midnight at Muswellbrook a fortnight ago after racing close to the lead and this could prove to be advantageous in the latest assignment.

Lounerse carries the colours made famous by the 1970s grey champion, Gunsynd, and looks set to provide the strongest challenge to the Angela Davies trained gelding due to the benefit of two barrier trial efforts and the ability for positive performances when returning from a spell.

Lightscameraaction appears well positioned to break her maiden status in the opening event after two promising placings on the north coast in recent times while Miss Rebel has solid credentials in race two after a dominant win at Muswellbrook earlier in the month.

This is reflective upon whether Cassandra Stummer elects to fulfil the local engagement or head to Quirindi in a similar race on the following day.

Other safe wagers centre around Oakfield Peewee in the Maiden Plate with Xtra Approval looking set to continue the wonderful strike rate being enjoyed by Tony Ball after a strong display on Taree Cup Day last week.

Races on the program are named after Kentan Machinery Taree, Hire Port Macquarie, The Chip Shop, Tap Tap Goose and Char Bar Catering with the Port Macquarie Race Club delighted to acknowledge the support provided.

Nick Green has been an integral part of racing at the club over a prolonged period and it is fitting his name is carried in the third event on the program as a fitting tribute to a great character.

Further information regarding bookings and other details are available by contacting the Port Macquarie Race Club office on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au.

Following the wonderful success of Port Macquarie Cup Day the club is extremely excited to welcome Tones and I to perform her All Ages Acoustic Show at the track on Thursday 12th December.

This is a unique opportunity for the race club to host Tony Watson and her show in the confines of the circuit and the popularity of this phenomenal performer has resulted in the night being sold out.

Further information in the lead up to the night is available on the club’s Facebook page.
