Clarence River Jockey club is pleased to provide an additional barrier trial next Tuesday (28th September) for horses either eyeing off a position in the 2021 The Kosciuszko or trialling to maintain their current fitness levels.
The highly promising Valiant was a late scratching at Lismore yesterday and trainer Steven Wise is keen to get the lightly raced horse on show before the final The Kosciuszko spots are filled.
Likewise, Lismore trainer Owen Glue has the in-form At Witz End, a winner of three of his last four starts at metropolitan Brisbane level, still waiting for an invitation to compete.
Veteran Coffs Harbour conditioner Trevor Hardy is in the box seat as he already has a The Kosciuszko spot confirmed for Aheadofhistime. However, Trevor is keen to keep the gelding up to the mark and a trial at Grafton against other The Kosciuszko hopefuls provides the perfect vehicle.
CRJC's CEO, Michael Beattie said: “Barrier trials in the Northern Region are traditionally conducted after the last race with those horses needed to be passed to race gaining preference.
"With the current sunset times, it was simply impossible to program two trials on Tuesday. The CRJC was fully aware of just how important it was that these better quality horses got the opportunity to trial.
"And with the cooperation of jockeys and local officials, we came up with a plan that provides the perfect outcome.”
The trial will be conducted between races three and four on Tuesday it is hoped it will be covered on Sky Thoroughbred Central but if not, it will be up on the Racing NSW website soon afterwards."
