Tullibigeal, a small farming town with a population of just 233, swells to the thousands this Saturday for its biggest day of the year, Tullibigeal Cup Day.
A seven-hour drive from Sydney in Central Western NSW, Tullibigeal features the unique ‘Golden Gumboot’, a foot race for the human variety.
Tullibigeal Picnic Race Club committee member, Joclyn Newham claims Tullibigeal’s Family Picnic Raceday is certain to be another “awesome day of racing and entertainment”.
“Our committee members have been busy organising and preparing for what promises to be a quality race meeting,” she said.
“All the family can come and enjoy our annual raceday which awakens the sleepy little town with a jumping castle, laser tag, sand art and face painting to keep the kids entertained.
“There’ll also be a delicious BBQ, a variety of food vans and our full bar, with the meeting featuring a six-race card and on-course betting.
“We also have over $2000 in prizemoney up for grabs in our ‘Fashions on the Field’ competition as well as our famous ‘Golden Gumboot Foot Race’ after the final race has been run.”
Trainer Connie Greig and jockey Leandro Ribeiro had a field day last year, taking out the final three races on the program with Rosesay, Bella and the Tullibigeal Picnic Cup with Malibu Stacy.
“We normally welcome visitors from far and wide from Wagga Wagga, West Wyalong, Griffith, Forbes, Parkes and many from Sydney.
“Camping is available on site or at the nearby Tullibigeal Pioneer Park camping area and buses will be arriving from Lake Cargelligo and West Wyalong.
“Gates open at midday with final drinks at 7:30pm and tickets can be purchased online at www.123tix.
“We’d also like to thank our major sponsors Dunk Insurance, Frampton Flat Feedlot, O’Connors, Andersons Chartered Accountants, Chamen IGA and Deano’s Diggers.
“These businesses support our race meeting and ensure it is a successful and popular event. Join us for a family fun day celebrating country racing at its best at our own Little Randwick in the West!”
Meanwhile, the two-day Albury Gold Cup Carnival kicks off on Thursday with the running of the $75,000 Barlens City Handicap (1175m).
Then on Friday the highlight is the $200,000 Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup (2000m) supported by the $75,000 Naughtin Development Group Showcase Flat Knacker (900m).
Albury Racing Club’s CEO, Steve Hetherton said: “The Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup Carnival is now clearly established as one of the premier country racing carnivals in Australia.
“The event benefits from a half-day holiday in Albury that has seen the attendances consistently climb.
“And a significant part of the Cup Carnival is the Fashions on the Field which is always a popular and heavily contested event.”
