Craig Williams Heading To Tamworth For Showcase Cup Day

One of Australia’s top jockeys Craig Williams is making a special trip tomorrow to ride the favourite Total Recall ($4.60 on TAB) for Scone trainer Paul Messara in the $200,000 Great Northern Tamworth Cup.

In a career spanning some 28 years in the saddle, Williams has ridden over 1920 winners and his mounts have earned over $175 million in prizemoney.

Williams has won most of Australia’s major races and tomorrow he will be hoping to add the Tamworth Cup to his collection of trophies.

Tamworth Jockey Club’s David Jewell said Williams's presence on course will be a huge boost for the Club.

“With over $500,000 in prizemoney on offer for the Racing NSW Country Showcase meeting, tomorrow’s Tamworth Cup program is the richest raceday ever staged by the Club," he said.

"The weather looks great and the track is perfect and with the great prizemoney on offer, we have outstanding fields throughout the afternoon.

"Having a world-class rider of Williams’s standing here is a bonus.”

Racing gets underway at 12.40pm with the Great Northern Tamworth Cup (Race 7) run at 4.20pm.
