Sydney Signs Major Long Term Free-To-Air TV Deal With Channel 7

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have secured a long-term deal with free-to-air broadcaster Channel 7 to showcase Sydney racing to new and larger audiences 52 weeks a year.

The deal will see Sydney’s world-class metropolitan race meetings shown around Australia on dedicated free-to-air mainstream and digital channels each and every Saturday until 2027, including the world’s richest race on turf the $15 million TAB Everest.

Other iconic Group 1 races and Carnivals such as the Longines Golden Slipper, The Star Championships in the autumn and the XXXX Golden Eagle, as part of the Everest Carnival, will be among 142 feature races with total prizemoney of almost $150 million.

The agreement was finalised in time for the start of this year’s $50 million Everest Carnival at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.

Racing NSW CEO, Peter V’landys AM, said the deal reflected the standing of Sydney’s world-class racing: “Sydney has the world’s best horses, jockeys and trainers who now will be further showcased right around Australia," Mr V’landys said.

“We are delighted with this deal for the benefit of the entire industry in Sydney and NSW and which continues a strong relationship with Channel 7 forged over many years. In coming weeks more people will see some outstanding racing including the event being talked about around the world, the richest race on turf the TAB Everest."

Australian Turf Club CEO, Jamie Barkley, said: “For those who can’t be at our racecourses, the great excitement and colour of Sydney racing is now brought even further into their loungerooms.

"Racing in Sydney has never been stronger and this deal with our great partner Channel 7 helps to further grow and share our racing with even more eyeballs."
