Qantas Is Moving Mountains For The Everest

Hold onto your horses — the pride of NSW sport is off and racing to Los Angeles in a bold bid to sell the world’s richest horse race on turf to an American audience.

The Everest will feature at this Saturday night’s G’day USA tourism event alongside famous Aussie celebs and dignitaries.

Racing NSW is even taking the bedazzling The Everest trophy — a Nic Cerrone creation that is encrusted with 519 white diamonds and 7509 black diamonds — along for the ride.

Qantas, which is a major sponsor of G’day USA, has given the trophy a seat in first class and special handling on its A380 from Sydney to LAX. This year, the October 13 race is worth a staggering $13 million in prizemoney.

“The Everest in its first year captured the imagination of the Australian public and we are now determined to capture worldwide attention, particularly in America where significant betting occurred on the race,” said Racing NSW chief executive, Peter V’landys AM.
